Away From the Crowds

With the war finally over, the Next-Gen Freedom Fighters can finally celebrate the return to a free Mobius! They decide to throw a big party at the old Metacon HQ (which is now free of Metacons) in New Mobotropolis. During all the excitement, Kilo notices Ruby out on the balcony all alone. Wanting to get away from the crowds, he decides to go see her (with a little gift curled up in his tail).

Kilo clears his throat and said, "Uh, hey, Ruby."

Ruby looks at him and responds, "Oh, hi, Kilo."

"Watcha doing out here?" he asked. "The party's inside."

Ruby looks out to the horizon and answered, "I know. But...I've got something on my mind right now..."

"You mean...your mother?" he asked. "And...what she almost did...?

Ruby nodded her said and quietly said, "Yep." ()

"Man," Kilo thought. "Even with her mom behind bars, Ruby's still afraid of her coming back. She really needs someone to comfort and take care of her. Hmm, maybe....maybe I should ask her now. Maybe that will help her get her mind off things..." He looked at her again. Seeing her lit with moonlight was suddenly making his heart pound. "Wow," his mind continued. "I never knew how...beautiful Ruby is until now." He started to blush...

Ruby turned her attention back to Kilo. Seeing how red his cheeks have gotten all of a sudden, she asks him, "What's wrong with you, Kilo? Your cheeks are bright red. Are you feeling all right?"

Snapping out of this little trance he answers, "Huh? Wh-wh-what? D'chu say something...?"

"Yeah," she said confusingly. "I asked if you were feeling okay."

"Uh, y-yeah," he stammers. "Yeah, I-I'm feeling fine."

Ruby had an "uh..." look on her face.

"Anyway," Kilo starts, "I, uh, wanted to, umm...ask you...something. Y'see, uh, M-Mom and I have been talking this over and, uh..... Well, we were just wondering if, uh... Um, I wanted to know if you would, uh--That is, if you want to, you could, uh....." He stumbled on his words so much that he couldn't figure out what to say next.

Ruby notices that his tail was curled up at the end. "What's up with your tail?" she asked. "And why am I seeing a pink ribbon coming out of it..?"

Kilo looks at his tail and sees that it's losing its grip on the gift. Without her seeing the gift, he puts it into his hand.

Then he takes a deep breath, shows her the wrapped gift and said, "This...is a little something Mom and I put together..."

Basically, Amethyst was punishing Ruby so hard the poor girl was in tears before she was even half done. The other Freedom Fighters felt that Amethyst wasn't fit to be Ruby's mother no more, so they moved in, saved Ruby, and took Amethyst into custody (after a long and fierce struggle). So at this point, Ruby doesn't have any one else to take care of her...
